Transformational Bodywork is a hybrid of Hakomi Therapy and Massage Therapy. Massage and other forms of bodywork not only relax muscle, release fascia, and ease pain, but also help the nervous system shift from sympathetic mode (the “fight-or-flight response”), to parasympathetic mode (the “relaxation response”). When this is coupled with Hakomi Therapy, people are often able to access their emotions more easily, and reach a deeper level of self-awareness and healing.
You are welcome to explore both approaches and see which one works best for you. The main difference is that with “straight” Hakomi Therapy we’re both seated, and with Transformational Bodywork you are on the massage table. Hakomi tends to offer more versatility in terms of getting up and moving, which is sometimes an important part of the process. Transformational Bodywork tends to offer more intensity and access to inner information by virtue of the constant or near-constant touch. There are other pros and cons to each approach, which I’ll be happy to discuss with you.
The types of bodywork I draw from in Transformational Bodywork include:
- Massage
- CranioSacral Therapy
- Myofascial Release
- Acupressure
- Energy Work
